Different brands of blood glucose meters may use different technologies, so the data results are not comparable. According to the international regulations, the difference between the results measured by the glucose meter and the laboratory at the same time in the same sample shall not be more than 20%. If the difference exceeds the above range, it indicates that the glucose meter itself may have quality problems. The problem is not the instrument in most cases, but other reasons (specimen problem, improper operation, expired test strip, etc).

Fasting blood glucose measured with a glucose meter tends to be lower than that measured by a clinical laboratory, with a difference of 12~20%. It should be noted that in the postprandial state(such as 2 hours after a meal), the results of the glucose meter were similar to those of the clinical laboratory. Suggestion: If you doubt the accuracy of the glucose meter, when you take venous blood to test blood glucose(plasma blood glucose), at the same time, you can test the finger blood glucose(whole blood glucose). Then compare the two values, if the difference is less than 20%, indicating that the glucose meter is relatively accurate. 

We know that the body's blood glucose is affected by many factors (such as diet, exercise, sleep, mood, etc.) and always in constant changes, sometimes even fluctuating greatly. In the same fasting state, blood glucose values at 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. are different. Suggestion: When comparing blood glucose values, take the blood sample at the same time as possible. Fasting blood glucose: After fasting and rest for 8~10 hours, blood samples were collected before 8 a.m. the next day. Postprandial 2 hours blood glucose: refers to the 2 hours calculated from the first bite of the meal.

Sleep disorders and mood changes such as nervousness, anxiety, anger, panic and painful stimuli can cause blood glucose to fluctuate. Suggestion: When analyzing and evaluating test results, we must take all the factors that affect blood glucose into consideration. Maintain emotional stability before testing your blood glucose.
